What would the effects of criminalising tobacco be?

It would turn the 20% of the population that are addicted to tobacco into criminals because they would not stop smoking. Look what happen when the make alcohol illegal. Tobacco is more addictive that the drugs that are illegal and we can not even keep people from using them.

We would have to double the amount of money we are currently forking over to the DEA and other govt. enforcement agencies, We would see more gangsters and gang violence, We would also have to build a lot more jails and prisons and people would still smoke , probably more than they do now.

Honestly I think it would see a similar reaction as prohibition did. Even though it would be illegal people that want it would enough would acquire it which creates! Business for someone who can take that demand and create a supply. It would likely create a similar organized crime up take like banning alcohol did during prohibition.
