What's a really nice style of dress?

Hi, I've got a Christmas school dinner party coming up in a few weeks, and I'm really stuck for what to wear. It needs to be semi-formal and not too short. I'm quite tall and not very curvy. Any ideas for a good dress style, or does anyone know of one particular dress they really like that perhaps I would like too? Thanks for your time.

Well this is just me, I'm not a whore either so if this sounds whorish I'm not! lol I'm curvy too, and I love black tight dresses, like one with maybe lace sleeves or long sleeves or something since it's for winter .. that's what I'd do .. something like this ...:http://www.west49.com/products/girls/clothing/dresses-and-skirts/billabong-lace-it-up-girls-dress.html ??? but maybe a little longer lol
