What's happening with Pottermore?

I waited very patiently until the end of October even though all of my friends who made it into Beta are always bragging to me >.< Anyway, I understand that they want to make the website the best it can be, but why would they advertise that it will open to the public after October 31st and then not open? It just dissappoints millions of fans. Are they opening it in 2012?
