What's with the costumes that DC comics come up with?

I mean seriously underwear shown to the public? I mean, we can even see the outline of Superman's thingy.

And I swear half the times, it shows him with a b*ner
Yeah I think marvel grew out of the whole underwear thing

Wolverines got a singlet and pants now at least
 
Superheroes costumes were based off of circus performers 1930's style hence the spandex. oddly enough there was controversy about crotch sizes when the comic code of authority started, for a while they had no bulge at all starting the popular comic fan saying of "Captain Marvel has no balls" The reason the costume remains the same after all these years are the rabid fan boys who get angry about them changing the costume.Like in the 80's they changed his costume to a full black body suit with a silver superman symbol, fans were more annoyed by that then the fact that he had a mullet. here's a pic of it http://images.comicbookresources.com/solicits/dc122003/big/ReturnOfSupermanBlackSuitSM.jpg
