what's your interpretation of Kafka on the shore?

I read it, am now re reading it, and I'm completely bemused as to what is actually going on. I can't understand if Nakata and Kafka are in some way connected to each other, at first, maybe because of Nakata's shadow, I thought they were but that wouldn't make sense.
Is Miss Seiki Kafka's mother? And if so, what's happened to the daughter?
I'm not studying this book, I'm just really curious. I've never read anything like this.
