(three parter, look for the question marks)
I'm introducing a third cat into my home. Its been a week now, I dont have any baby gates or glass to separate the cats so I have been letting them have mini-standoffs. He seems to be making progress with one of my cats. They can lie in the same room and play with the same toy, seperately of course. He is able to relax (flop on his back) around her after a while of supervised interaction.
But when he runs into my other cat its a little more growling and hissing. He has sprayed(marked) twice that Ive seen after his stand offs with her. I always separate them or they separate themselves. They never swat at each other. So how should I continue my intros? If I am rushing it is it possible to slow down and turn things around? I am waiting for refills on my feliway diffusers (should be here by Friday) and hoping that will aid the process. I am willing to take the time to do it right.
Also, is it a problem that I am usually in "his room" (the room he, his litter box, food and water are kept in)? I feel like having to keep them apart and out of his room is heightening the tension between the cats. I think the "old" cats are jealous that I am keeping them out of the room and only petting the "new" cat.
