not been altered? My brother bought a PS3 from Sears on 2/1/08 and the rebate for the 5 free movies clearly states purchases must be made by 1/31/08. He thinks he can just change the date on the scanned receipt and it will work. I told him there has to be a way to verify the information on the receipt with the retailer but he doesn't listen to me. If he does this, can the rebate company look up the transaction details through Sears?

They probably can, but probably wouldn't take the trouble to do so for every rebate request they get. But there are two problems with his attempted larceny :-D -- first, is he an expert Photoshopper, or is his attempt going to be glaringly obvious? Second, most rebate offers I've seen ask for the original receipt.

I would go back to Sears and see if they would extend the rebate offer for him, if he didn't know the end date of the rebate, if a salesman told him he could get it, if the rebate offer was still being advertised in the store on Feb. 1, etc., etc.
