Everything was fine on a the car I have so much money into until this morning. I drive a 1991, Rx-7 non-turbo and I got in it to go to work and out of nowhere it was screaching noises, I thought it would go away as I drove further, but then smoke. . .a lot of it. I turned it off, looked under the hood, couldn't see anything - -I started it back up, barely and got it back to my spot. . .

When the smoke cleared. . .I saw a belt of some kind that was pretty shredded and then I looked at the belt on the alternator and it looked chewed up - I am not sure if they both went bad, or how many belts are even there to go bad. . .But, the engine was cold, how could the belts just burn like that? Is the alternator belt supposed to looked chunked out? almost like teeth marks??

Is this an expensive problem because the car has been running fantastic with no engine on or anything. I didn't see if the car was overheating, but I didn't have the car on long enough to figure it out.

Expensive?
How many belts?
Alternator belt have teeth marks?
Not driveable right?
How do I explain it mechanic without getting screwed? Like I know what I am talking about?

THANK YOU PEOPLE! Thank you!
