I want to go to a junior college in LA, I will also be working at Universal Studios.
So I wanted to know the best communities to live,
I'm looking for a community to rent an apartment.
As Jessica mentioned, Oakwood Toluca Hills is a good choice, but it might be out of your range, unfurnished singles start at about $1200, one bedrooms at about $1500. (Furnished is much more expensive, and there is an IKEA close by in Burbank for cheap but rather stylish furniture.)
There are a lot of apartments near Universal, in Studio City, look around Ventura and Vineland, streets like Arch Dr, Fruitland Dr, Bluffside Dr, Aqua Vista St, Acama St. (Some of the streets are both east and west of the Hollywood Frwy, for some of those streets, the apartments are to the west of the freeway.) Drive around and see what you can find, some buildings will have signs posted for rentals. You can expect to pay $900+ for a low end single, and $1200+ for a low end one bedroom. Other options are Toluca Lake (tends to be more expensive), North Hollywood, Burbank, and Glendale. Closest to work and college is best!
While some of these areas aren't rated as the safest, that's the way it is in LA, even in many nice areas, but if you're careful, you will be fine. Be aware of your environment, get good locks on your doors and windows, alarm your car, don't do dumb stuff like walk around at night or invite strangers over.
