My girlfriend loves to cook, and I'm looking for websites or London stores that sell cool kitchen gadgets at a reasonable price.

I also saw a chef's hat with "Queen of Cuisine" printed on it when I was out shopping months ago, and am now gutted as I can't find one anywhere!

Any ideas?

Nisbetts is where pretty much everybody in the industry buys their bits and pieces from and you can't get cheaper. In fact, if you order online you often get prices that are lower than in their brochure.

For the "cuter" bits and pieces it will depend on what shops are in your area

Try this website:

Can't help you with the hat but I'd suggest instead of gadgets buy her good quality, multi-use "tools" for the kitchen.

Good knives, utensils, a food processor if she doesn't have one, good stock pots or skillets in stainless steel, a good stand mixer if she likes to bake. More ideas, good heavy commercial quality sheet pans (think cookie baking sheets), a heavy duty stainless steel roaster, some of those silicone spatulas, good solid ladles and turners, spring loaded tongs, good quality plastic cutting boards that can easily be disinfected, good solid strainers/colanders that don't go floppy when loaded, the list goes on!

My favorite manufacturer for things like the food processor and stand mixer is Kitchenaid. Their stand mixers are nearly legendary in performance and longevity! There are attachments for making pasta, a food mill for making your own tomato sauces, applesauce, meat grinder, sausage stuffer, ice cream maker, a slicing and shredding package and more I'm sure I'm forgetting! I have 2 of the mixers; both over 20 years old and they work great! I use the food mill a lot because I put up my own tomato sauce from my garden tomatoes and I'm starting to make applesauce now that the apples are in season here in the US. And she can also make bread; the machine is that strong! Comes with the dough hook to do the mixing and first heavy kneading for you. I make bread and pizza doughs a lot. My Kitchenaid food processor is the first one I've had that can truly handle what I throw at it from grinding smaller amounts, chopping, slicing, shredding anything from cabbage to cheeses, making pie dough, biscuits and even fresh bread crumbs.

Avoid buying items that only do one task. We never have enough room for storage in our kitchens and gadgets usually only do one thing. To quote TV chef and host, Alton Brown "There is room for only 1 "uni tasker" in my kitchen, a fire extingusher!".

My husband and sons love that I like to cook and bake for the obvious reason that they get well fed but it makes it easy for them at gift giving time. And I like getting those kind of gifts because it makes what I do easier and they are showing they taking into account what I like to do. Just like buying tools for a carpenter; they can't build a house with a Swiss Army knife and duct tape!

Lakeland have a fantastic range of cookware, as for the hat have you tried garden centres - they sometimes have chefs aprons, hat etc with the barbecues

Nisbets is a brilliant catering equipment company but they are more for the professional caterer,
