Where is a nice location to go on a cheap romantic vacation?

My boyfriend and I are looking to go on a short getaway in the middle of September. We are in our early 20's and are looking to stay for 3 nights for less than $800. We live in central NJ and are looking to drive no more than 6-7 hours. We are outdoorsy people but aren't necessarily looking to go camping- we are more looking for a place that we can stay in a cozy hotel/BB and go out exploring, hiking, boating, birdwatching, etc. but still go out for a romantic dinner. I'm a frequent guest at Rydin Hy Ranch in Lake George, NY but I want to do something different this time. Possibly Out Banks, NC or Chincoteague,VA. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Thanks!
