Where is the sensor for coolant temp on a 1971 Chevy 350 motor?

I own a 1971 chevy C-10 pick-up. Recently the temperature guage pegged to hot. I found a wire hanging under the hood, and assume it goes to the temp sensor, but, I have been unable to locate the exact location of this sensor on the block/head? Can anyone tell me where to look?
