Where to help volunteer in washing animals from oil spills?

My mom has wanted to help wash birds/marine life from oil spills for a really long time but says she has to fly out somewhere and she doesn't have enough money (we're from Vancouver, B.C.). So for her birthday I wanted to fly her out to wherever it is that you can help wash these animals. Does anybody know anywhere in the world where it is possible to help out with this? I know she might know but I don't want to ask her because she might get suspicious. Thanks
