I know i asked a similar question but i was wondering when you pick up your dribble while driving to the basket and have 2 steps are you supposed to glance at the defender so you can move the ball away from the defenders hand or do you look at the hoop the whole time???
thanks

Look at the hoop. Don't break your focus. If you see his hand coming at you, move your arm so that he hits you. You will get the foul call and maybe the basket.

by the time you are going to the basket you should know what the defender is going to do... also, its not necessary to keep your eye on the basket.. once you've made a million lay-ups you'll know when and how to get the ball in the hoop... i'm sure you've seen all those no look shots by nba players.. that comes from experience.

if you think you have a chance of scoring, focus on the basket and just the basket... you should probably keep the ball on the opposite side to the defender as well for safety (this way you could get a foul call, and even maybe a basket as well)

if you think the defender is too close, you are too far, at a weird angle etc. and dont think you have a good chance of scoring, look for a pass or stop after your two steps

try to look at the hoop, or glance at where his hands are and then the last few moment look at the top of the square to aim your layup, so just incase he comes swinging, you can dodge it and still finish if your concentrated on the top of the square
