which clock speed ram is required for intel pentium 4 mobile cpu 1.70 ghz?

I have a compaq evo n800c laptop which is extremly slow in processing. I have tried all the usual trics used for enhencing the processing speed, but to no avail. I am at a loss to further carry out any more measures for getting the needfull results. Kindly help. I will be highly obliged.
Note: Presently, I am using two rams DDR-333 (PC-2700) of 512 MB and DDR-266 (PC-2100) of 256 MB. Any further quary is welcome in this direction.

usually you should match the speed of the RAM, i have not actually tried using 2 speeds and did not know it would even work.

however the simple fact is that both the speed of the cpu and the size of the ram is quite low

what Operating system are you suding? windows xp?
