I would really like to read some of his novels but I don't know where to start. I know that many of his best works are war based but I am not particularly fond of war novels. Are his books very technical? I'm thinking about A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Sun Also Rises...Suggestions?

The Sun Also rises is a great Hemingway novel that's not about war, and also the first one of his that I read

Definitely read "A Farewell To Arms", especially if you would enjoy a love story. That is my particular genre. It is also the only Hemingway book I have read, but it was one of my favorite books in high school.

Check out mine:

My favorite of his would be For Whom the Bell Tolls. But it is a war novel. Still, the writing and the characterization is good enough that you might not mind.
You could start off with The Old Man and the Sea. You can read that in an afternoon.
