Which is a better vacation destination; Daytona Beach FL or Cocoa Beach FL?

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip next March/April. We have a free hotel in Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach, or Ft.Lauderdale. We are going to be coming from Orlando so we thing Daytona Beach or Cocoa Beach would be best since they are closer. We really like swimming, kayaking, nature, and relaxing. We would prefer a beach/tropical feel more than a busy city feel... We have never visited Florida so any input would help.
 
Cocoa Beach is a lot smaller than either Daytona Beach or Fort Lauderdale so for what you're looking for it might be the best bet. Sounds to me though like you would really prefer the Keys or the Gulf coast around Sarasota, Venice Sanibel Island, Boca Grande, etc. Too bad your hotel isn't located in one of these places.
