Q for boyfriend. He's wanting to know which licence would be best to take, a counter balance or reach fork lift truck licence? (As he is taking one in 3 - 4 weeks time and still hasn't decided yet which to do).

i have counter balance, has got me a job in most places i ve lived. depends if the work in oyur area is mostly new build stlye depots (REACH) or factories and normal business' (CB).
if u can afford, get both, plus rough terrain forklift, or better yet, find a company who will fund your training.!

He should be able to take both! I was licensed on a Order Picker in just half an hour. I think he'd be better off going for the counter balance, since that is your standard forklift, but the reach truck license would come in handy too... Although you do usually see more jobs looking for experienced fork truck drivers (which would be the counter-balance)

If he could only take one I'd say the counter-balance. But like I said, he should be able to take both!

Reach trucks are good because they are smaller, so you can fit into smaller areas to do your work, and they can reach higher (I think...) but with a counter-balance, you can move things like carpet rolls and heavier loads.

Both is the minimum answer- Even then its no guarantee of a Job.
Experience and a clean record counts for a lot with Employers.

He might want to consider going for a 'Narrow Aisle' and or a 'Bendy' Licence which are more in demand in general Warehousing.
Tell him to take his time and be Safety concious.

Best Wishes
