In the year 2013 everything as we knew it changed. A small group of explorers and scientists discovered a small island a few miles west of Madagascar. It was a very small island but the group had no idea how it could have remained hidden for such a long time. Once they were on the island they soon realised it was nothing like anything else on earth. For one, the plants were all incredibly strange. Some very ugly but exotic and some very beautiful but terrifying. All seemed deadly. For two... there were no animals, no mammals... only spiders.
There was only one type of spiders, one species that would soon be known as the, 'Skin Spiders'. At first the group simply thought that these spider bite and that was it. There was no venom or poison and only a slight sting. They assumed that these spiders were not dangerous in the slightest. But they were wrong.
They are quite small spiders, most of them brown. They look like house spiders... how often are looks deceiving? Very often. One of the men got bit by one of these spiders, but instead of killing it or swatting it away, he ignored it as the sting didn't bother him that much. The thing is... it should have bothered him more. The Skin Spider wiggled into his skin and began to move up his body, not going any further than just beneath the skin. The man grew itchy and short-tempered, jittery and jumpy. The others were worried in case he had caught some unknown, foreign disease. Or not. It was the spider, crawling through his body, very slowly - it was driving him crazy. Once it reached his brain he lost it. He went crazy, attacking his friends and fellow workers. He killed three before someone shot him. They all freaked out when then saw a single Skin Spider crawl out from his ear.
They packed up instantly, intending to leave. The only problem was that they didn't realise that most of them had a Skin Spider within them, slowly killing them. Once they arrived home in England, the one's that had the Skin Spiders within them, went crazy. Killed people and either got killed or died an excruciating death. All too soon the spiders began to reproduce, growing in vast numbers and spreading throughout the U.K - soon they were airborne and the entire world was infested with these spiders and people had no way to fight them.
Three years on and the worlds population has dwindled from six billion to a few thousand survivors. I am on of them. I haven't met many people because the Skin Spiders prefer to attack people in large groups so I stay on my own for a lot of the time, but occasionally I run into someone. From what I've seen and what I've heard we're losing more and more people by the day.
Now, its simply surviving that matters - keeping the human race going.

It starts off as an itch. Maybe in your hand, maybe in your leg and maybe, if you're the most unfortunate, it starts in your face. You begin to get agitated, jittery. Your skin begins to itch so hard you smack at it furiously, just wanting it to stop. Then you become snappy with people, uncaring about anything but that itch. You know, the one that seems to be moving further and further up your body? The one that started at your belly button which is not at your cheek? Soon your temper flares, you hit out at the people around you that you love, the people that you don't love and then... suddenly it simply doesn't matter. They have to die. They don't know the pain you're going through. They're annoying, bothersome, never shutting up - they have to disappear.
The Skin Spider were discovered three years ago in 2013, ever since then they have spread throughout the world like an infection. People are dying everywhere - no where is safe. These spiders like to attack people in numbers so if you want to survive... you have to be on the move, you have to isolate yourself from people. Its the only way. I'm a survivor of this attack but I'm left wondering... how long till we're all gone?
