Who would I complain to about a local pub? The situation is this - Due to the recent 'Credit Crunch' the pub landlord has now switched off the heating to the pub and when I went in there last night, there were no lights on except around the bar so the staff could see - I mean isn't this taking cost saving a little too far when the patrons are freezing cold and have to drink the dark and actually have to ask for the light to be switched on in the toilets? It used to be a nice little pub but now it is horrible to drink in - I tried the brewery's website but there wasn't any links on there.

This pub is the only pub within walking distance to my home and it's the same for everyone around here so it's a case of deal with it or don't drink there anymore which will utimately lead to the place being shut down if everyone goes elsewhere or doesn't bother!
1) I don't drink too much - I may have one or two glasses of wine on a friday night - How Rude to assume that!

2) It is a franchise - its J W Lees Pub

3) I did complain to the Landlord and he went on a tangent about his last energy bill

4) it's that dark in there someone actually tripped over a bar stool

hope this clarifies a few things

I imagine you could only complain to the publican.

It's his pub, he Maje's the rules.

Arrange a boycott, and drink at home with a few mates.
If you can organise enough people you may get a result with heating and lighting, but you may find you are paying for it with increased prices.

He could be struggling also.

You cant complain - Because you have the choice to go there. And go there out of your freewill.

there is no better way to express your disappointment with an establishment than not giving them your business.
think of it like this: 2 glasses of wine= $15
52 weeks x $15 = $780
and thats just the wine. do you Ever buy food? GONE,
do you bring friends? GONE
hit em where it hurts, in the wallet.

cheers

It depends if it is a tied pub, meaning a franchised brewery pub, you complain to them.

Alternately don't go to the pub, get some friends and have a good time in your house. I am sure everyone will do that soon anyway and the landlord will put on the lights. suggest to him to use energy saving light bulbs. Heating? oh well wrapp up warm if you are so desperate to go the pub.

Alternative get a petition going, objecting the the idiotic treatment you are getting at this pub, and give it to the landlord, alos mention taht all the undersigned will boycott the pub if he does not change things soon.

What possible good could complaining to anyone other than the landlord do?

It might be a good thing if they shut down, you drink far too much anyway!
