Where will they go and who will LA pick up?
I dont think they need anyone but you never know when injury will occur so lets fill our roster, as you can tell we need some defense. I think the best available would be Drew Gooden. We need some size and D coming off the bench. Luke and asha are playing horrible, Brown needs to play morfe mins and so does Morrison. He has a lot more potential than Luke or Sasha. Sasha is a horrible shooter and defender. Look up his stats. We need the D more than a streaky shooter like Sasha

I asked the same question but everyone said that the Lakers don't have enough cap space Gooden.

Smith ---> Cavs

Gooden -----> Spurs

i think they should try to pick up Joe Smith, he can shoot from 15 and is an underrated defender with an average name ;)

As much as we need them, think of it this way:

We will be paying a Radmanovich-like contract (Drew Gooden/Joe Smith's will make us way above the luxury tax level, which we have exceeded already), for someone who will average like what? 8 minutes or below in PJ's lineup?
Hell, no. Although Gooden is an improved version of Powell, and Smith as well to Mbenga, we can never know how they will crack into our rotation.
They will take a beastly 10 or more games to get into our system flow, and right now, the bench is just as deep as it is.
If ever Gooden/Smith will replace Powell into the bench spot, then it would ruin our bench. Gooden can't run, and Smith? (can't even jog), and they play a rather motion-based offense (more like the way Pau played with the Grizzlies), they won't fit in our system, and if they do, they won't fit the run-and-gun bench mob.

I agree with Brown getting more minutes, but not Morrison. Brown is a confident PG when he steps into the court, but dude's got a lot of problems choice-wise. And although it is curable, still, this time of the season is now all about jelling together, one mistake gets you out, one good thing gets you in.

Sasha is not a horrible shooter, if you looked at the bench mob all through this year, in December (the month when Farmar was injured) his stats were statistically better. Of course, we can say he lost his shooting touch the way he's been playing. But he never is a horrible shooter. His PER is statistically best considering his limited playing and effectiveness in the floor (one of the few players that were a + on Sunday's game) As for the defending part, yes, he doesn't play D with his feet, but that's because, he has teammates who will rotate (Odom, Walton, Gasol). The truth is the Lakers' strength in defense is in SOS defense, or rather much known as Help D. So, if the big guys don't help and don't rotate when someone drives through the lane, the result would be either a score or a foul or even both.
That's what happened during LA-PHX's game on Sunday, Sasha was expecting rotations from the big guys (Sasha would not play defense with his feet because they don't normally play man-to-man D, and for the reason that he will guard the outside shooter only), and when no one rotated, Sasha or Odom, or Walton would just foul to stop the running/slashing opponent from scoring.

Let's stop bashing on Sasha shall we?
