why am i afraid to do karate on someone as self defence?

i suffer form anxiety (but it is going)... but, in karate i have been learning deverstating moves to knock someone out or even kill them...
i dont get into fights but i love to compete :)... im going in the nationals next year which is allright.

but to the main story, at my school some people keep asking me for fights yea or sometimes bully :S... i ignore it cause whats the point. I dont get into fights, i prevent them.
But with my anxiety i keep having the thought of loosing my temper and just charging at the person and doing a "shuto uchi" (knife hand strike) to the neck and killing them... or them attack me and i block and counter with a uchi the the neck... and ashi berai (foot sweep) and finesh them of u know.

its weird, im not a violent type of person, i love karate... but the feeling of doing it on someone and doing some damage worrys me i guess...
how comes i feel like this ???
jess ogosti: im not new to the fighting world... i used to do mixed martial arts and boxing.... but in later years i been getting anxiety :S, but i just dunno why i have thoughts like this, i never used to
 
You have the opposite psychological problem of some other martial artists. The others are afraid their martial arts WILL NOT be effective in a self defense situation. I guess, on a posititve note, you at least have a strong faith in your karate.

I think you have a half way decent concern. If you are trained to do something, you may automatically do that in a situation. A lot of martial arts moves become automatic. So, who knows what you may do?

I think this a great question for your sensei. I'm not sure what to personally tell you other than to talk to him. It is something you should figure out before you get in a situation. You don't want to kill or seriously maim someone unless your life is in danger.
 
Are you Newish to the fighting world? Well if you are or even if you're not, don't worry about it. People know the risk of competing in karate tournements and try to be as safe as possible. Some moves like hitting someone in the throat though are STRICTLEY NOT ALLOWED IN COMPETITIONS only use chest legs arms and if wearing head gear, head strikes. And don't worry about feeling bad it just means you care about other peoples saftey
