efficient sedan on the market? Recently I was in the USA, and I was surprised to discover that even in these times of high fuel prices, the majority of taxis there are still Ford Crown Victorias. It seems an odd choice - the Crown Victoria is an enormous, rear wheel drive, V8, with a crude body on frame construction and outdated 4 speed automatic. Wouldn't it make more sense to use say, a Toyota Avalon V6, which would provide similar space but probably use half as much fuel? What about a 4-cyl Accord, which is still classified by the EPA as a large car. Both of these vehicles would also have better resale value than a Crown Vic.

i recently heard an npr program about it and the owner of the largest new york taxi company said basically that "some cars these days are tough. But not Crown Vic tough". they are just built tough and at the same time maybe a bit crude
