Why are recreational drugs illegal?

Specifically drugs such as marijuana, magic mushrooms, and other drugs that only (if at all) cause small amounts of damage in the long run? They cause no harm to others so isn't it against the constitution for them to be illegal? Furthermore why are cigarettes and alcohol legal? They cause damage? I seriously want to know how this is possible under the constitution.
