Why are there no limits on the amount of alcohol or tobacco you can legally buy?

Even if prop 19 in California does pass, there will still be strict limits on how much each person can have and buy. But why are there no limits on how many cigarettes you can buy or how much snuff you can buy or how many bottles of vodka you can buy?

Why the double standard? What if someone want intenting to sell all those cigarettes or cases of beer they bought to minors? Shouldnt there be a limit on how much they can buy in case that does happen so we can be safe?

Because Republicans want you to buy the same amount of beer as in weapons. They want you to balance out the two and be able to take both anywhere, and together.

The real question is..."How exactly will they know you've brought an ounce and still have half of it left after a month long period"?

I agree, it shouldn't matter how much you can buy. Alcoholics and smoking fiends were never limited on HOW MUCH they can buy.
That part of prop 19 fails in so many ways, that is not legalization at all if you are limited. Perhaps it has something to do with alcohol and tobacco industries to keep in par with Cannabis sales.

Even if there was a limit, I don't know how the government would enforce it. If a certain store won't see you more than, say, 1 case of beer, you could just go to the next store and buy more there. Also, if people wanted to throw a party they should be able to buy enough alcohol for everyone.

Minors are always going to find a way to get alcohol and cigarettes. If no one gives it to them, they can just steal if from their parents.

There are limits on all controlled substances. Neither alcohol nor tobacco are controlled.

Because the tobacco and alcohol industries have very strong and effective lobbies in Washington and in states.

in one word " democracy " besides what business is it of yours ,are you the pope , people still have the right and communism lost the war , have't you heard.

More importantly why is there not a limit on the amount of McDoubles they feed fat people?
