At least they should purchase the chevy volt and set true example of how sincere they are.
And why are those who say, "i will never use arab oil for car if i get the chance", not buying Nissan Leaf ?
Also why are those who say, "I will never use any product that's not made in USA" still using computer and being present on yahoo answers?
chevy volt: needs to be charged with wall plug for 12 hours, to drive 40 miles at maximum. Every 40 miles requires a 12 hour charge plug

nissan leaf: 51 horsepower, quarter liter engine, with half cylinder and cannot drive more than 80 miles in any 24 hour period.
chevy volt is 43000 dollars. nissan leaf is 37000 dollars. both cars combined cost 90,000 dollars. but neither seen on road

this country is at 9.1% unemployment with the "true" number of unemployed including those who have given up looking for work actually around 15%.
The total number of people in this country now considered to be poverty level has increased more than four times the number before Obama took office. 40+ million poor people! Who has money to buy a Volt or a Leaf? Not many!
The thing you are overlooking is that NOBODY wants a hybrid or electric car. The only people that drive them have considerably more money to indulge their progressive/wacko environmentalist ideologies.
Neither the Volt or the Leaf is practical, economical, or even sensible for everyday use unless the owner lives within 5 miles of work, shopping, and everything else that they do.
It is almost impossible not to use a product not made in the U.S.A. and live a normal life in these times. Somehow, someway, you will eventually use a foreign product whether you know it or not! Most of the "light bulbs" (fluorescent) that are sold here are made in China by G,E. Most of our oil comes from other countries. Even a lot of our so called domestic automobiles are made in Canada.
So, to be honest, you can take a stand and say you are not going to use anything but American made products. but a lot of the individual components in American made products like electronics, automobiles, etc. are made in other countries. lol

We've always bought Chevrolet. Won't be happening again. We used to do a lot of freight hauling for Toyota and Honda plants and seeing those facilities with workers who CARE about their jobs and aren't unionized. To me, it makes sense that people that are happy with their jobs are a lot more likely to do quality work than either GM or Ford. (I'd still buy a Ford over a Chevy, though.)

Most people can't afford a Chevy Volt
I can buy a Ford Focus for driving around town and it is made in America and gets good gas mileage.

When it gets 300 miles to a charge, and they make one large enough to carry my tools and has 4 wheel drive, I may think about it. Until then, my Toyota SUV will work just fine.

Every other car I bought was American.

Until they started costing twice as much to maintain.

You see, Detroit came up with a little scheme called "planned obsolescence" figuring people would
buy twice as many cars.

It didn't take long for me to buy a Toyota and buy half as many cars.

Patriotism is a two way street.

LOL

A "Government Motors" Car?

Thanks but no thanks.

Next Car will be a Ford.
