why asian women travel alone?

i noticed when on vacation in chicago with family, there were a LOT of asian women in their early to mid 20's travelling on their own. they looked like they were from korea, china, etc.

then hearing about the recent body of asian woman elisa lam (found dead on a rooftop hotel), she was also travelling alone.

i didn't know that this was so common for asian women? asian families usually are very protective of their daughters
