Why can't I get a Divx movie to work in Window Movie Maker?

I do have the Divx AND the Xvid codec, and the video works fine in Windows Media Player.

All that happens in WMM is the audio plays, and it isnt counted as a video file, though there is a picture instead of music icon, but when I place it on the timeline it wont go in the movie section but the audio section only.

:(
Sry, should have said that I have had this file work in WMM before, but not on this PC. But just going to try WinAVI :)

Windows Movie Maker isn't always the best for importing files... best thing to do is convert it to WMV first (I use WinAVI for that), and then it'll work fine.

I believe that you haven't got the correct codec. You may need to d/load it from microsoft. Or, if you have Winavi, you could try to convert it to an MPEG or AVI file..

Because windows media player doesn't have the de-coder that Divx has..
pretty much same principal why you can't read a divx dvd on a normal dvd player
