Why can't I play blu ray DVD's with my BRAND NEW Computer (Vista)?

I just bought a refurbished Gateway computer with a 9600 Quad core processor and a ATI Radeon HD 2400XT graphics card. It has a built in blu ray player. I'm attempting to play my first blu ray disc (with Cyberlink Powerdvd) and the disc plays for a second and then an error message comes up and says that my graphics card driver is incompatible and I need to get a better one. Well, I downloaded Catalyst Software Suite (32 bit) English Only v.8.4 (with driver) and I still get the error message. Do I need to 'activate' the driver or something? How do I do that? WHY CAN'T I PLAY BLU RAY DISCS...THIS IS REALLY FRUSTRUATING! Thanks!!!!

Well, you *don't* need to upgrade your video card as Power DVD suggests, since the ATI Radeon HD 2400XT is definitely HD-compatible (including Blu-ray). Have you tried a different software program that supports Blu-ray? My guess is that the version of Power DVD you have just doesn't support your card, or doesn't support Blu-ray. Regardless, you can call Gateway's tech support, as this should be something that should work right out of the box, since it was shipped with a Blu-ray drive. My experience with Gateway's tech support has been very positive (unlike Dell, you're guaranteed to get someone in North America, not India).

As an aside, Blu-ray and DVD are two different formats of optical discs, so it's incorrect to say "Blu-ray DVD". It's like saying "I can't play Betamax VHS tapes...". The correct term would be "Blu-ray disc". Sorry, just nitpicking :)

Vista Sucks. It's one of the worst things you could ever use. You should go and switch it into Windows XP (I use that) and you can use the DVD's on windows media player. [D Drive]
