Why did Israel give up Gaza?

I'm new to this whole thing. I realize Israel has to bow to the whim of the US--mostly for European interests--but Gaza? When will the time come when we stop caring about what the Europeans think about the U.S.? Are thousands of lives worth what the Europeans think about us? When will we stop caring about x country's likeness to us and doing what needs to be done? I personally think it is ridiculous, the "Palestinians" will never be satisfied, ever. Just looking at their ideology, it's obvious they want everything and more. Is the U.S. just going to sit back and take crap from them forever?

are you serious? Israel stole Palestinian land, and after giving it a fraction of its land, its stealing it back, little by little. is 13 Israelis seriously worth over 1000 Palestinians?
13 people that Hitler failed to wipe out and that nearly every country in the world fought for, you know expect them to fight with and do the same to Palestinians and Arabs?
 
You sick bastard. You must be one of the people that wish the US to keep spending.... no, WASTING our tax payers money sending resources (troops, weapons, armor, etc) to foreign countries.

We need to worry about our economy with Japan taking over.
