why did my 2000 ford taurus stop blowing air out the vents?

it blows out the defroster but no air out the other vents..the air works fine out the defroster but nothing at all comes out the vents in the front panel or the back seat vent...warm or cold air wont come out the vent nothing i tried moving the dial to have it come out the vents that doesnt work either it jus stopped working out of the blue i dont understand why because it was working fine yesterday. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Of course, Rick2914 is completely right, but there maybe a much simpler cause... and one I experienced.

The dial knob selector on my 2000 Taurus simply stripped itself on the shaft
Before you do anything else ,pull off the selector knob altogether, and try turning the shaft with pliers/vise grip or whatever, and see if it makes any difference.

It's a simple fix, if your problem is like mine. Good Luck..

There are doors inside the ducts inside the dash board that direct the air to where you want it. Most of these doors are run off vacuum from the engine. There should be a smaller rubber hose going from the top of the engine into the firewall, somewhere around the brake booster. See if you can locate it & if it's cracked or kinked or such.
