theres no shame in liking a 1973 lincoln continental with a 460 big block pushin out 375 hp and onyl getting 10 mpg
 
It wasnt so much the EPA as the rising costs of gas and insurance that brought about the demise of the muscle cars and battlewagon cruisers like your Lincoln or the real pre-1974 Cadillacs.

Stronger emissions requirement, high gas prices (comparatively at the time) played the biggest role. If not for the oil embargo in the 70s, the Pinto and Mustang II would probably have not come into existence
