Why did the Mayan prophecy get so much attention when the Viking prophecy

for 2014 gets nothing? The Mayan 2012 prophecy fizzled out as predicted. But there was so much fear and debate and even Hollywood movies about it. According to Viking myth, the world will end on Feb 22 2014 but nobody says a thing about it. Why?
