why do all of my apple headphones not work with my itouch?

right out of the box they dont work. it sounds like the jack isnt plugged in all the way but it is and it only works if i twist it into the right place. but then even so when i move around the problem persists.
my ipod is gen 4 is it not compatible or smthg, i doubt that. is it dirty, how might i clean it?

Try bringing it in to an Apple store asking for a test for defects. It could be that it has a manufacturer's defect and needs to be fixed or replaced.
