Why do I find it so difficult to lose weight? Is it like this for anyone else?

I've been dieting steadily for five months and have only lost three and a half pounds.
I have seriously limited my food intake (I have one meal a day -- usually a sandwich. I've tried many different foods but it doesn’t make any difference). And I've tried loads and loads of diets throughout my life, but have found that only starving myself works.
I can't stand exercise but I walk four miles a day, everyday.
I have a very slow metabolism and gain weight very, very easily.

Is it like this for anyone else? Does anyone else have a lot of trouble losing weight?

Oh, and if it's relevant, my blood pressure's on the low side and my cholesterol’s fine. It's not that I want to lose weight to be healthier, just that I really hate my physical appearance.
