My dad told me that it goes and makes a home of its own somewhere else if its mate has kittens. Since my first male cat ran away and came back once maybe to say goodbye, my dad took my new cat to get his sperms removed. Do they really run away because they have kittens?

male cats may run away for a few reasons,
your female cat with calm and will stay at home, whereas male cats will run away
and try to find a mate, or because if there is a lot of issues going on around the house, not getting enough attention, not getting fed, and always being pushed away and there owners putting attention towards something else.
male cats also need some time for them self, it's not that he doesn't love you anymore
or thinks that you don't love him they need there space to hunt, find a mate and other wild thing cats enjoy.
although cats may be small they do love a wide space to play about, or if your cat is an indoor cat, maybe you cat make you own toy for him to play with .

if your cat has ran away and hasn't come back in, lets say 1 week, if you like, put signs
up so people are aware, or just walk around till you find him and investigate and search the last place you saw him just like i did, but if your cat will not come with you and has been introduced to a new family try to bring him home and keep him inside and put LOT'S OF ATTENTION on him and he will get use to home.

thinking how do i know this?
well i have went through all this and now making a story to help other in need of there cats.
i got my cat in 2007 for my birthday, so i don't plan on loosing him EVER.
for ever he will stay in my heart! :)

Male cats unless their nuetered will run away just because they need a mate. its only natural...i think that anybody that doesnt take the right steps for that kinda deserve to lose their cat. once they find a female you might as well say good bye instead of looking.

Yes, love, attention, neutering and also the breed is very important.

I agree with all of the above about love, attention, toys and neutering is probably the most important to prevent roaming. Another thing to consider is the breed. If you get a pure bred cat (and do the research on the animal before buying and do the above) you can be assured that it will not run away. My Javanese is completely loyal to me and follows me around like a dog. He would never stray. When I take him outside, supervised of course, he stays by me and follows me along as if on a chain. He's intelligent, playful, energetic, loves other animals and devoted. If I'm outside with him and for some reason get outside of his line of sight I've noticed that he'll even start to cry as he gets lonely and scared and wants to see me. It's quite amazing. I've also taken in a black and white tabby male and try to treat him with as much love as the Javanese and only one time did he roam for three days and never did he do it again. I try to give the cats as much attention as fairly possible but of course don't let them out on their own.
