Over the past few years I've gone through an insane number of watches. Every time I pick a watch and wear it for a few days to a week, it stops working. All of my watches are analog -- I think digital is tacky. I swap out the batteries, but nothing fixes them. This happens to my grandmother too, and I've heard of other people who can't wear wristwatches without having them stop.
What causes my watches to fail? I don't put them in extreme conditions or under any type of stress.
