a big part of our religion? I have been put off pretty badly by this question a number of times. Jesus is central to our religion, how can anyone not see that?

I hope people will dig deeper before stating such outrageous claims.

That's not my issue with Mormonism. I take offense to any religion that uses their god to discriminate or judge others when the very thing they preach is only God can judge.

Well...to be fair, your idea of Jesus and theirs is very different. I mean sure you can lump them together, but it is a bit of stretch.

Many Christians believe they are the only "real" Christians and all others are wrong. The definition of a Christian is one who believes the New Testament and that Jesus was some sort of god. Mormons clearly fit that definition. All you born again fundies who think you are the only true Christians need to realize your denominations are quite recent in origin, usually no older than Mormonism. Get over yourselves!

It has to do with what your defintion of who the Lord Jesus is. LDS claim that Jesus is a "spirit brother" of Lucifer born of Elohim and not the eternal Son of God who was with God and is God.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made....14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

In other words, the Latter Day Saints were deceived by a false prophet according to the Bible.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

The term anti-Christ refers to a substitute for the real Christ.

It is because you worship God (Heavenly Father) as the One God.
Jesus is the Son of God, who is the your spirit brother.
Mormons don't see Jesus as the Creator of the universe, but as the child of the Creator.

Most Christians believe that Jesus is creator God of the universe, not a distinct spirit.

From my very limited knowledge; I have the impression Jesus was unimportant in Joseph Smith's early religion - he emphasized all his new scripture, revelations from Moroni. That it was only later when Mormons were trying to co-exist with less conflict with the rest of (christian) society that Jesus was brought more and more to the fore. There is suspicion that some (a lot of?) teachings about Jesus in LDS were added on at a later date. So the sincerity is doubted. Plus pretty much every Christian denomination views Smith's theology and scriptures as not theology or scriptures, but simply stuff made up by one human man. (Just stating what I've observed over many years.)
