Why do some people go to comedy shows and not laugh?

It seems like going to watch stand up comedy would make you excited and you get in the mood to have fun, so you laugh even a little. I'm watching stand up comedy and when they show clips from the audience, there are always some people in the background with a complete straight face like they're at a funeral!
