Why do you think alcohol and tobacco are accepted drugs and ecstasy and weed aren't?

I ask this question because a lot of research shows that alcohol and tobacco are more damaging to your body and are more addicting than, for instance, ecstasy and weed.

Having tried all 4 I agree with the research and I find it odd and twisted the way the law handles these drugs.

What do you think? (and please, do think before answering)
 
Ecstasy is potentially more damaging, my cousin tried it once, and ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks-bad batch. Also weed is boarder line illegal, the only reason both are illegal is because the government can't control the distribution of them, otherwise i'm sure they would be legal.
