Why does an Internet browser freeze?

Sometimes I'd try to tab over (in IE) and the Internet browser would freeze up and I'd have to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to exit out of it.

Out of curiousity, why does my browser do this?

it can be for a variety of reasons, but most likely, you don't have a lot of RAM, so it gets stuck, or freezes
