the Heisman and why Mark Ingram should get it over Toby Gerhart?
Ingram played 3 teams that don't even rank nationally in yards and if we eliminate those non-conference games from consideration (FIU, North Texas and Chattanooga shouldn't count towards Heisman credentials) the average rank for defenses he played against is like 57.8.. Gerhart didn't play against any FBS schools or unranked teams but 2 teams were horrible (the final stat does include Notre Dame but leaves off washington state and San Jose State) and that average rank is 47.1.. now if you include the two bad teams Gerhart played against you must include dead last ties for the 3 that Ingram played which were FBS teams.. this arguement that Ingram played "Tougher Defenses".. is weak.. Gerhart actually played tougher competition.. so what are they hanging the Ingram for Heisman on?
side note: even including the two really bad teams in Gerharts number.. and not including the FBS teams at all.. Gerharts average is still 58.1.. can't really include Ingrams that easily
this is based totally off opponents national rank of rush defense.. basically how good was the direct competition .. Gerharts opponents run defense was better.. a lot better.. yet everyone wants to hand Ingram a Heisman and shut out McCoy by saying "it's not what you have done" so apply that to the SEC Defenses.. it ain't what defense they have had it's what they have THIS year.. and SEC defenses overall sucked against the run this season.. go to NCAA.com and look it up.. most teams in the SEC are in the bottom half of the nation with I think only 3 teams breaking the top 50
