My cat, since I've had him, has always had a certain place he prefers to sleep and clean himself, usually on a bed or in a box or basket or other place he deems comfortable. What I find odd is that he'll prefer a certain place, say, a basket, for a few weeks, spending about half of the day there, every day, and then abruptly stop going there. He doesn't gradually lose interest; he's there for hours one day and the next day won't touch the place. Then he chooses a new place and the pattern continues. Does anyone else's cat do this? Does anyone know what is going on here? Is this a survival mechanism wild cats exhibit?
