why does my dog chew his nails?

he doesnt chew his paws, he is literrally biting his nails, he has no pain or allergic reaction and has done it all his life, he tends to chew/bite his front nails and they end up being very sharp
 
Hmm yeah those answerers above me could well be right, he might have OCD or just gone in a bad habit, wanting to keep them shorter (try clipping them) my cousins dog bites his nails too but..I dunno I would put it down to a slightly neurotic habit
 
keep them clipped short and that may help to reduce the chewing.

It may be that the nails are annoying to the dog and he is trying to make them shorter so that they don't touch the ground. Long nails can flatten the foot and cause damage if not trimmed regularly!
