I have a 1 year old maltese that rarely barks, but he constantly is whining, crying, moaning, etc. There isn't anything medically wrong with him. He's been to the vet dozens of times and he has no physical problems. I don't think he does it for attention because he will do it when I'm right next to him in the same room. A few days ago he was walking around the dining room, sniffing the floor and just started whining for no reason at all. He whines when I come home, when he hears my keys jingle and he knows I'm leaving, but he also whines when I turn on the water in the kitchen. Strange. And, like I said, sometimes he whines for no real reason at all. Almost like he's just bored does it simply because he can. I've tried to stop him, but it's been useless so far. Is this normal behavior? What can I do to stop it and why is he doing it so much? Karlynne S, that's ridiculous. Love is one thing my dog is not lacking and certainly isn't an issue here.
