Why does my laptop keep shutting down while I'm installing XP?

I have a Compaq Presario V3500. It came built in with WIndows Vista but I decided to switch to XP. I booted up the laptop using the XP CD (WIndows XP home edition). after it reformatted it started to copy some files then it rebooted. Then after it rebooted it went on to install XP but it keeps on shutting down. Now while im trying it again my laptop keeps shutting down at random times during the installation. please help!!
