i just got a male crowntail betta fish about 2-3 days ago. since ive gotten him, he keeps flaring his gills, what does that mean? will he eventually stop? is he just trying to get used to his new home? what do i do? thank you for your help :)

This is normal for male beta fish. It's a way of showing aggressiveness to intimidate other fish. He probably is seeing his own reflection somewhere. Don't worry, it's just normal male beta behavior. (: Mine does the same thing when I put a mirror in front of him. :P
