Why does my truck jerk severely left and right?

I have a '91 dodge diesel P/U. It drives fine for the most part. Sometimes though, after making a sharp turn in either direction and then straightening out the wheels to continue on my way, the truck will jerk left and right severely and become difficult to keep in my lane for a while and then the problem just goes away in about a half a mile until I turn sharply in one direction again. I'm assuming it is a worn steering component. Any ideas?

you probably need your suspension adjusted or maybe a new spring. have a mechanic check it to make an estimate if you suspect its something mechanical. it probably wont cost too much and its safer to have them check so you dont end up jerking into the side of a car

sounds like a broken tie rod.
should look like a threaded metal bar about as thick as your thumb, or a little thicker. get down and look for that in two pieces, you should have one on each side.
