Why does our newly rescued tabby follow me, and only me?

Here is a little background info in him. My mom who is a DDD worker had to go to this family's house for a meeting. well after the meeting, she saw the cat up on the front porch. The lady gave him some tuna, and she said she had seen him before, so he's obviously been out for a while. He wanted to follow my mom to the car. She drove to our vets office to get a pet carrier and they gave her one for free. She drove back and he ran right into the carrier. She took him back to the vet to be fed and stay overnight. He's been microchipped and it led back to the AHS, but if he went there, theres a high chance he would be euthanized because they're overcrowded. He has a collar and tag so he was obviously owned before. We think he came from a foreclosure situation. So we've pretty much adopted him now.Judging by his teeth, the veterinarian estimated him to be about 6 years old.
We've only had him for 3 days now. The first night we got him, he went under my parents bed. Later on that night, he woke me up by getting in my face, meowing, and purring. Its me, my parents, and 2 younger brothers. Its been like this every night. And during the day he likes to follow me around. I give him his regular food,Blue Buffalo Longetivity, along with 3 Feline Greenies as he's still a little skinny. Anyways theres a little info on him and what i feed him. I just wonder why he follows me? It doesn't bother me, but is it part of him adjusting or something? Thanks in advance!
