I'm looking for a new truck, and it looks like I can get a used 4X2 F-150 for about the same price as a 4X4 Ranger from the same year. I like both, but I've always heard that 4X4s are a lot more expensive to maintain and I know they get worse gas mileage because of the weight. In fact, the little 4X4 v6 Ranger gets exactly the same as the 4X2 F-150 with a 4.6! Still... almost all the trucks I see on the road are 4X4, and you can tell they never get taken anywhere rough. Is there a really good reason to go for the 4 wheel drive truck when I'm not planning on taking it muddin'?
I can get either one of these Fords for just over half what a Tundra or Tacoma would cost me, and the F-150 actually gets a little better mileage than the Tundra according to the EPA. Plus I just like the looks of the F-150 better. It rides sooooooooooo smooth too.
